Company History

The BrainWave Centre began as The Brain and Behaviour Centre of Westmead and has provided diagnostic, assessment and treatment services since 1995. The Brain and Behaviour Centre was initially developed and pioneered by psychopharmacologist, Dr. John Anderson, who is highly respected in the field of medicine, neurophysiology and pharmocology through his published research on the connection between ADHD, marijuana uptake and schizophrenia. He is also well recognised as the initiator of the successful Marijuana Quit Program. Soon after the commencement of The Brain and Behaviour Centre, Dr. Eli Zeltzer was invited to join as the Medical Director. From the outset, Dr. Zeltzer became the key diagnostician in the area of ADHD and has subsequently examined and reported on over 27,000 brain function tests.

The first Centre was opened in 1995 in humble beginnings at Westmead in NSW. By 2001 the number of patient visits per year was in excess of 1,820 and it was clear that additional testing equipment was needed in order to meet the increasing demand for tests requiring qEEGs. The trading name 'Brain and Behaviour Centre' was formally registered and was accompanied by a branding and image change in 2003.

In 2004, the Centre further expanded and relocated to modern suites in the Ashley Centre at Westmead. Data collection was subsequently upgraded and streamlined. More recently, consultation and testing rooms have also opened at St Leonards and Liverpool.

Since its commencement in 1995, the Brain and Behaviour Centre has seen over 28,000 patients and has a referral base of over 2,500 medical professionals, including general practitioners, psychiatrists, psychologists and paediatricians. Additionally, school counsellors and principals also refer to the Centre.

In July 2005, the Brain and Behaviour Centre took on a number of new shareholders to allow for expansion beyond Westmead, so that services can be provided to patients closer to their home. The funding from these shareholders has led to the birth of the new look "BrainWave Centre". It has allowed for new rooms to be set up at St Leonards and Liverpool. We are developing a strategy for the setting up of further testing and treatment rooms at Richmond, Wollongong and later in Newcastle and Canberra. The funding has also enabled an increase in our facilities in the provision of Neurofeedback as a non-invasive, drug-free treatment option.

Today the Centre aims to provide an integrative approach to diagnosis and treatment through an array of quality behavioural, mental health and substance abuse/addiction services to individuals of all ages.

Services include Electrophysiological Assessment, Psychometric Testing including IQ Testing, Psychotherapy, Substance-Abuse Programs, Contracted Mental Health Services, and Neurofeedback. These services assist in the diagnosis and treatment of Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, depression, anxiety and other mood disorders, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, substance abuse and other associated disorders.
